Legacy Landing , mixed use development envisioned near Northern Quest Casino .

The Kalispel Tribe's Northern Quest Resort & Casino in Airway Heights is one of Spokane County's largest employers . In addition the sprawling resort draws thousands with it's Casino , Hotel , 14 Bars and Restaurants and shows / concerts in the on site event center. So it only makes sense that developers and business owners would want to build near the Casino.

Which brings us to the large piece of mostly vacant land located directly to the south of the Casino. That land is actually also owned by the Kalispel Tribe , and the Tribe does have plans for it. But don't count on any major developments there right away.

The land, which is located along Hayford Rd. in between Northern Quest and the already existing businesses along US 2 is envisioned as a large mixed use development called, Legacy Landing. In fact , Legacy Landing signs are already up near the Chevron Gas Station on Hayford .

As of right now Legacy Landing is only an envisioned development. But some work has been done . In 2012 , Sprague Ave. was re-aligned to the south and the former Sprague Ave. roadway reassigned as Northern Quest Dr. . A round about on W. Sprague Ave was also built as part of the roadway re-alignment to allow better access to the site and the area around Northern Quest.

Also, not all of the land that will one day become Legacy Landing is vacant. Chevron at Legacy Landing is a gas station / c-store , owned by the Kalispel Tribe that sits on Hayford on the Legacy Landing site. And a new 60,000 square foot building , also owned by Tribe sits on the Western edge of the property and is used for the resorts laundry / storage / maintenance needs. On the southern end of the Legacy Landing land is a , now under construction , 200+ unit apartment complex called Copper Landing. Copper Landing is a being built by a group other then the Tribe, under a land lease agreement.

Although there are a few things already at Legacy Landing , most of the property is currently empty. The site consists of a total of 300 acres and as described on the Kalispel Development Company's ( K-Dev )web site the land is destined for commercial , residential and industrial growth. The web site also goes on to say their goal for Legacy Landing is to "create a unique destination where people can live , work and enjoy a variety of entertainment , recreational , dining and shopping experiences surrounded by Northwest and native cultural elements".

Legacy Landing seems to have an exciting future and surely will , just like Northern Quest , be a success and place where the people of the Spokane area to enjoy for a long time to come. We will continue to update you should any further announcements / new projects come to the Legacy Landing site.
