Pizza place and brewery to open in new Spokane Valley building

A few months ago we mentioned the construction of a new commercial building at the corner of E. Sprague & Flora, next to Ziggy's in Spokane Valley. The building shell itself is now complete and work is happening now to build out the space for 2 tenants who compliment each other quite nicely.

The building, with an address of 17018 E. Sprague, will house a brewery and a pizza place. Both businesses we're already established elsewhere in Spokane Valley, with one moving here and another opening a second location here.

Here is who is opening soon at corner of Sprague & Flora-

River City Pizza

River City Pizza is a locally owned and operated pizza place that is a favorite of many with a location on N. Harvard Rd. in Otis Orchards. They will keep that location open as well, making this their new second location.

This new River City Pizza location will be about 2500 square feet and will offer carry out and delivery pizzas as well as a few other menu items. The new location should open sometime around the middle of July.

For more info on River City Pizza, check out their website at http://www.rivercitypizza.com

Genus Brewing and Supply

Genus Brewing has evolved since their opening as Nu Home Brew & Bottles back in 2013. They are moving from their originally location further west of Sprague to the corner of Sprague & Flora.

There hasn't been an opening date announced just yet but they will likely be opening in the coming weeks as they are further along in the remodeling process. Like River City Pizza, the space for Genus Brewing will also be about 2500 square feet and will be larger then their original location.

Their new store will serve beers made on site by Genus, as well as some home brewing supplies. They won't serve food at first but will have seating for 43. The owners next door at River City say they hope to work together at times but exact plans aren't certain so early in the building process.

Linnie's Thai Cuisine re-opens on Sunset Hwy.

Linnie's Thai Cuisine is back! Linnie's has operated in Downtown Spokane since 2004, and other local locations since as far back as 1990. But, last year it was announced that Volunteers of America would be purchasing the site Linnie's stood on Downtown for a new homeless housing project. Linnie's owners wasted no time in finding a new location to provide their delicious Thai dishes to the masses.

The restaurant's owners have recently re-opened in the former Asian Restaurant building at 5306 W. Sunset Hwy. about 2 miles west of Government Way. The owner and chef E Muongkhoth says he is still serving up authentic, quality Thai food that customers have come to love over the years, and " everyone is happy ".

And, he must have made a few people happy as this month marks the beginning of Linnie's Thai Cuisine's 29 year in business. Muongkhoth came to the United States as political refugee from Laos in 1979, finding his way to Spokane in 1984. Working for others at first until he opened the first location of this restaurant with just $6,000.

Linnie's Thai Cuisine is open M-F 11-9 and Sat. 4-9pm. They can be reached anytime at 509-747-5760 and a menu can be found on http://linniesthai.wordpress.com

A look at Spokane's first indoor aquarium, Blue Zoo, with photos!

In case you haven't already heard, Spokane is about to get a brand new indoor aquarium!

The new business is under construction now and will be called Blue Zoo. Blue Zoo is expected to open sometime this Summer, next door to Buffalo Wild Wings in Northtown Mall. Recently, Blue Zoo was nice enough to allow us a tour of their progress, and from what we saw I can safely say it will be unlike anything Spokane has ever seen.

While not as large as the established aquariums in bigger cities, Blue Zoo will pack their 11,000 square feet full of dozens of species of animals. Even more unique, Blue Zoo will have a couple of rooms included to see birds and lizards as well. There will even be scheduled mermaid and a pirate shows!

Among the attractions will be 30,000 gallon shark tank with kids crawl, Giant Pacific Octopus Tank and designated tanks for everything from fresh water fish to predator's! A full list of their attractions is on their website listed below. I can safely say Blue Zoo will be a must do for anyone who is even remotely interested in fish and marine life.

Blue Zoo is still at least a couple months away from opening to the public. But, annual passes are already up for sale and with early bird pricing they are cheaper now then they may ever be again. Passes are for sale from an individual economy pass for $39 up to the Ultimate Family Annual Pass which allows 2 adults and unlimited children access to Blue Zoo anytime during open hours for just $199. Also after opening, guests will be able to check out Blue Zoo via daily passes but the annual pass provides a more budget friendly approach. A full rundown of all pricing is available on their website at http://bluezoo.us

In addition to the main attraction, Blue Zoo will also have a gift shop at the entrance and a birthday party room available for anyone to rent from $249+ or $199+ if you have an annual pass! Themed birthday parties will also be available as will mermaid and pirate meet and greets. More info on birthday parties are also available on their web site.

Watch for hopefully many more updates as Blue Zoo develops and opens this Summer. And, for business owners Blue Zoo is excited to offer sponsorship opportunities, contact them directly for more on those incredible opportunities.

In the mean time, follow their progress via their website at http://bluezoo.us

Or on social media @bluezoospokane on Instagram or on Facebook at http://facebook.com/bluezoospokane

And, now some photos from Blue Zoo, the photos of fish are actual fish taken inside Blue Zoo and are not stock images.

Terrain's Pop Up Shop getting new name, moving to River Park Square

Pop Up Shop is planning to pop up in a new, larger location soon. Despite the name, Pop Up Shop is actually a permanent retail shop that has called the Steam Plant Square building home for a few years now. The shop is a part of the non profit arts organization Terrain and is retailer of various products, gifts, apparel , home items and more from local artisans and makers. A sign on the window explains the business sells items that are " Spokane sourced, Spokane made " .

But, work has already begun to relocate the store to a new much larger location, still in Downtown Spokane however. The Pop Up Shop will move into the former Whiz Kids storefront on the second floor of River Park Square ( Whiz Kids moved to the other end of the mall a while ago ). It will also dawn a new name and logo better reflecting the purpose behind the business. After the move the store will be called From Here.

From Here will now have 4200 square feet of space, a significant increase in space from the former location. The new space will allow From Here to sell all the same items as before, but they will also be able to accommodate an additional 25 artists and makers.

Several renderings of what the completed store will look like line the windows of the new space and workers are inside moving the get the new store operational. In fact plans call for From Here to open as early as the end of this month, we'll hopfully follow up on their opening as the time gets closer.

New building planned for Domino's / other tenant on 3rd in Downtown Spokane.

Watch for construction to start in the coming weeks at the corner of Third & Howard in Downtown Spokane. Workers will soon demolish the existing building on the Southwest side of that intersection and replace it with a new 2 story commercial building. Most recently the existing building has been a Mexican restaurant called Cinco de Mayo, and a few other businesses have also came and went from the space in recent years.

After demolition, construction will start on the new building, which will be a little larger then 6000 square feet. A good section of the new building will be a new Domino's Pizza location, one other tenant will join the building but no word on who that might be. Domino's Pizza already has a location about a block and a half west of the site so it is believed that location will relocate here.
