The Tipsy Vine to open in Spokane Valley

Business owner Julia Carlson has built her wine business, The Tipsy Vine, from a small, curated Washington Wine Club to a growing business that will soon open its new open to the public retail wine shop in Spokane Valley, not far from Liberty Lake.

The Tipsy Vine shop will be located in a 1500 square foot storefront at 18213 E. Appleway that I'm told will be a neighborhood wine shop "one that you stop in on your way home from work to grab a bottle" said Carlson. The front half of the store will be the retail wine sales and the back half they plan to use one day as an event space / cellar storage, but that part won't be ready at opening day.

The shop will focus on Washington wines that the owner is personally curating, there will also be occasional tastings at the shop. Additionally, the wine club will remain with club members currently receive three releases each year, offering 4-6-12 bottle allocations. More information about joining The Tipsy Vine's wine club is on their website which is linked below. Also, follow them on their social media for an exact opening date, which they will be announcing soon.

Dave & Busters might be coming to Spokane Valley

A big request for new businesses to come to Spokane has always been Dave & Busters. The Dallas,TX based chain is a favorite in many cities, known for being a full-service restaurant with full bar and video arcade. In 2023, I heard a rumor that Dave & Busters was considering a site in Spokane Valley. And, while the site involved in the rumor doesn't seem to be accurate it does look like Dave & Busters is in fact considering coming to Spokane Valley.

Recently, Dave & Busters filed a pre-development application with the City of Spokane Valley to begin the process of developing a new location in the city. There have been no building permits issued as of yet, so this post is not a confirmation the Dave & Busters will for sure open here, but there's no denying that it is a good sign. We also did reach out to a PR contact with Dave & Busters and we're told the company has no comment at this time.

Under the pre-development filing's public records, the company hopes to build a new location at 13921 E. Mansfield Ave.. This would be on the newer addition to Mansfield Ave. , east of the Tru by Hilton hotel and northwest of Spokane Valley Mall, but on the other side of the railroad tracks from the mall itself.

The current plan is to build a new construction 30,000 square foot building on a 4.0 acre site with a surrounding 232 car surface parking lot. The arcade section is planned to occupy about 11,000 square feet of the new building with the remainder used for the bar. restaurant dining space, offices and other support areas. According to the plan the restaurant would seat 369 with an additional 60 seats available in the lounge area.

It's still early in the process so an opening date, general contractor, etc. are not yet available. However, we do plan to continue watching for more news and updates on a possible Dave & Busters coming to the Spokane area. Currently the closest open locations for the chain are in Western Washington with stores in Auburn, Bellevue and Lynnwood.

Chick-fil-a planning new restaurant along Ruby nearby Gonzaga

Chick-fil-a is clearly eyeing the Inland Northwest market for more locations as to date they only operate the one store on Newport Hwy in North Spokane. Although the City of Spokane denied and application at the end of 2022 for a new Chick-fil-a location at the busy intersection of 29th & Regal on the South Hill the company has come back with a new planned second Spokane location. This time at the corner of Ruby & Sinto, north of Downtown Spokane and nearby Gonzaga University.

Building permits for this location have not yet been applied for but the company has gone thru the pre-development process and just last week entered a SEPA application to consider the environmental impact of this planned new restaurant. In the SEPA application documents Chick-fil-a indicates that they are bullish on starting construction at the site saying once the SEPA and plan check is complete they intend to break ground. Of course, this doesn't give an idea of exact timelines for construction or an opening date, however.

The plans call for a 5028 square foot restaurant to be built on the 1.52-acre site. The new buildings address would be 104 E. Mission Ave. as the lot for the new restaurant would run the entire length of N. Ruby in-between Sinto and Misson. Plans call for a double drive through and a surface parking lot with 85 spaces, 4 of which will be accessible.

Currently the site is occupied by a small group of homes and already vacant land. These will likely also need to be demolished prior to construction of the restaurant itself. We plan to keep an eye on this developing project as we expect more news on it in the coming weeks.

Plans for a new Home Depot store on the South Hill move forward

Back in October of 2023 representatives with Georgia based Home Depot filed for a pre-development conference to discuss the possibility of constructing a new store on Spokane's South Hill. Although this provides awareness of a company's thoughts on what they want to build, many of these pre-development projects never make it beyond this phase.

But, it's now looking more likely that a new Home Depot store on the South Hill will come to fruition as the company's plans have moved forward. While building permits have yet to be applied for, last week the company did enter the SEPA application process to determine the environmental impact of their project.

According to the plans Home Depot plans to demolish the abandoned Shopko store at 4515 S. Regal St and build a new 107,891 SF Home Depot store with an attached 26,261 SF garden center on the south side of the building. Plans call for keeping and improving upon the existing parking lot, which will include a small area for rental equipment and seasonal garden center displays.

In the SEPA application it is noted that the company plans to start construction in the Spring/Summer of this year with a grand opening currently planned for the Summer of 2025. There is no mention of how many people will be employed at the new store, this will be the 5th Home Depot store in Spokane and Kootenai Counties.

New restaurant, Indicana to bring a mix of Mexican and Indian cuisines to the South Perry District

A unique new restaurant that will blend two cuisines is now officially on its way to the South Perry District. Called Indicana the new restaurant has been being developed behind the scenes for almost a year now, but is now actively happening with leases signed and signage up on the restaurants future home at 1020 S. Perry St.

Indicana is a collaboration between Noreen Hiskey of Inland Curry and Chip Overstreet the former CEO of Spiceology. They indicated in a recent social media post that each dish will celebrate the cuisines of India and Mexico and every bite is meant to wow your taste buds. Some of the menu examples given are chipotle roasted sweet potato enchiladas with a creamy butter marsala sauce, tender pork vindaloo with tandoori-spiced cabbage on a warm naan taco topped with melted gooey cheese and many more. Indicana is definitely doing something Spokane has never seen before culinary-wise.

Owners Chip Overstreet and Noreen Hiskey

Dietary needs will also be considered at the new restaurant with gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options available. Additionally, a small full bar is planned to be part of the restaurant with craft cocktails representing the flavors of the two cuisines they are inspired by.

Presently the owners of Indicana are planning to open the new restaurant around late spring or early summer of this year. But, there is significant remodeling that will still need to be done to the building so exact opening times will be announced by them when the timing is more set. The space has been vacant for over 10 years and was last used as a small grocery called Hai's Market. Indicana plans to be able to seat 55 indoors and an additional 1200 square feet of patio space adjacent to Grant Park for outdoor dining during the warmer months.

Yost-Gallagher Construction will be the general contractor on the remodel of the new restaurant. With architecture done by Mercier Architecture. ASB Kitchens and DS Studio will also be involved in the project.

For more information on Indicana visit their website at https://www.indicanaeats.com/ or follow them on social media via Facebook or Instagram

Spokane area disc golf enthusiasts and those new to the growing sport will soon have a new place to shop locally. Iron Turtle Disc Golf, which is already in business selling disc golf merchandise via their website (link below) recently announced they have leased a space for a new retail store just east of Downtown Spokane.

Hangry's planning new location at former Lost Boys restaurant space in North Spokane

It was a sad day when Lost Boys Garage Bar & Grill closed down at the end of November. But, it's sister restaurant The Summit Kitchen & Canteen does continue on at 1235 S. Grand and it even looks like Lost Boys' North Spokane space at 6325 N. Wall won't be vacant for very long another restaurant has already announced their intentions of opening a new location there and recently hung a coming soon banner there.

Hangry's , which started a few years ago at 11923 E. Trent Ave in Spokane Valley is planning to open their third location in the space in the near future. They also operate the original place on Trent and opened a second place on Seltice Way in State Line,ID just last year. I'm told the new North Spokane Hangry's could open for business as soon as the middle of February. Although an exact date can't be set this early due to construction and permitting process times, which are often delayed.

The new North Spokane Hangry's will run the same menu as the other locations being open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. Hangry's has become known for their large burgers, sandwiches, fresh breakfast menu and more. Their menu can be seen on their website which is linked below, their restaurants offer indoor dining, carry out and delivery via the standard delivery apps like DoorDash and GrubHub.

A full bar is planned for the future of the new North Spokane Hangry's , but will take some time before that portion is up and running. They tell me however that they are also planning to create an "out of this world mocktail menu" something they feel Spokane is lacking. Additionally, some new gourmet desserts are also in the works.

This is the only new Hangry's location planned at the moment, but they say they always have goals of doing more. And we can't wait to see what's in store for this growing locally owned and operated restaurant business.

For more information on Hangry's visit their website at http://hangrysspokanevalley.com or check out the North Spokane location's Facebook page.
